  Adobe has joined a growing list of firms offering web-based alternatives to conventional office programs. The software developer has acquired the online word processor Buzzword, which allows users to ... create and share text documents on the web. Similar programs are already offered as elements of other free office software suites from Google, ajax13 and Zoho. Microsoft has also announced a new web feature for its Office suite which lets people access documents online. Microsoft Office Live Workspace is currently being offered as free test, or "beta", software. "Office Live Workspace will provide anywhere-access to Office documents, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint files," said Jeff Raikes, president of Microsoft's Business division. "In other words, these documents will go wherever people go when they're away from their usual desktop." This gives you the right to modify, edit and build ... upon what's already there. We suspect one of the first uses will be to convert the documents into a set of wiki pages so people can collaborate on sections together. BBC DMI Data Model We choose to use Slideshare for hosting these files because it can index and cc licence files. They make the original file available for download but also create a nice flash slideshow which you could use to host the file on your own blog, facebook, etc. Just remember to add attribution in the form of text and if you can a link to the original or at least this blog entry.   More holes have been picked in the security measure designed to protect the privacy and data of wi-fi users. The latest attack lets criminals defeat firewalls and spy on where someone goes and what they ... do online. It comes after a series of other attacks that, experts say, have left the basic protection in wi-fi comprehensively "broken". But compatibility issues mean that many will have no alternative but to use the much weakened protection system. Lock picking The basic security measure in the technical specification for wireless networks, 802.11, is known as Wired Equivalent Privacy. WEP encrypts data flying back and forth between a computer and an access point to stop people spotting and stealing confidential information. It does this using an encryption key but numerous attacks have shown how easy it is to get hold of this key and unlock access to the wi-fi network or your data.   Consumer demand for bandwidth could see the internet running out of capacity as early as 2010, a new study warns. US analyst firm Nemertes Research predicted a drastic slowdown as the network struggles ... to cope with the amount of data being carried on it. Such gridlock would drastically affect how people use the web and could mean the next Google or YouTube simply doesn't get off the ground, it said. The report said billions needed to be spent upgrading broadband networks. It put the figure at around $137bn ( 66bn) globally. For users, the slowdown could see a return to the bad old days of dial-up, the report predicts.
