Graeme Smith graduated from Southampton University in 1998 with a degree in Physics before completing a MSc in Information Systems, passed with distinction, at Robert Gordon University. He began his career working on radar warning receivers for Selex SAS, initially as a software engineer on the EuroFighter before moving to a systems engineering position. The latter role included visibility of radar warning receivers on a number of platforms including: the Harrier Jump Jet; UK Attack Helicopter; Sea King Mk 4 helicopter; and Merlin Mk 2 helicopter. After five years in the commercial sector the temptation of research proved too strong. Graeme returned to academia in 2004 to investigate Doppler based non-cooperative target identification: a field that allows him to combine his love of radar and artificial intelligence. He is currently a research fellow at University College London and is a regular member of the IET.
