  The new phone, which offers faster internet access, cannot be used until a contract has been signed and the SIM card has been activated. The registration process normally takes only a few hours but unprecedented ... demand for the device last Friday led to the computer system of O2, the exclusive network carrier in the UK, buckling under the pressure. Three days on and some customers are complaining that they are still waiting for their handsets to be activated. Apple declined to say how many people have been affected, but it is understood that the problem has hit at least 2,000 customers who bought their phones from Carphone Warehouse. Nicholas Savage is one of scores of disgruntled customers who posted a complaint on a website called Carphone Warehouse's iPhone Activation Cock-up. He wrote: "Good to know I'm not alone, sharing this nightmare with several hundred (at least) other people.
