  Just when you thought the security risks of the iPhone couldn't get any worse, we discover this . According to one member of the Hackint0sh forum, Apple is using the iPhone to spy on its users. Here is ... a look at the unconfirmed claim from Gizmodo: The evidence in the code shows that the Stocks and Weather applications send your IMEI number the unique number which identifies your iPhone and is tied to your personal information to Apple, along with the nature of the information you are looking at . While there's no evidence that Apple actually uses this information for any purpose, good or evil, the code shows that every time you try to access a detailed information on whatever stock, your IMEI will be sent embedded in the URL. This could be cross-referenced with IP location and the information in Apple or its partner's databases to gather extremely valuable data for marketing purposes.   Almost half of British consumers say they would never buy an iPhone at £269 ($557), and 26% say they like it but it's too expensive by Natasha Lomas The cost of an iPhone is proving to be a sticking point ... for UK consumers, according to a survey. The Apple handset's not-so-dinky £269 price-tag is putting off swathes of potential buyers, according to a poll by market research company GfK NOP which surveyed 500 people across the UK. Almost half (46 per cent) of consumers polled said they would never buy an iPhone at that price. While a further 26 per cent said although they like the look of the phone it's simply too expensive. Just two per cent said they are considering adding it to their Christmas list. UK consumers willing to shell out for the hardware must sign up to an 18-month contract with O2, Apple's UK iPhone partner.   26 November 2007 11:16 GMT - What appears to be a small minority of UK iPhone owners are reporting some serious issues with signal problems. It seems those running the iPhone on the official O2 network ... are struggling to get coverage, despite experiencing no similar problems in the same areas with other handsets. These issues are being discussed on Apple's support forums, an excerpt from one user (typo-corrected) seems to sum up the problem: "My iPhone can barely pick up even the slightest signal, although on occasion can pick up three bars, only for it to drop out again. I have two other 02 phones, a Sony Ericsson and a Nokia N95 with no reception problems at all". Some users have suggested that the problem has been resolved by doing a full iPhone software restore through iTunes.   Unhappy with the way Google's mobile search engine works on the Apple iPhone, enterprise search provider Exalead is launching a version of its Web search engine that is specifically tailored for the popular ... wireless device. Timed for the release of the iPhone in France Nov. 29, the new search engine enables searches for text-based content as well as video, images and Wikipedia, said co-founder and CEO Francois Bourdoncle. iPhone users can point their Web browsers to i.exalead.com to access Exalead's search engine. The new software hews to the display specifications of the iPhone screen so that users don't have to zoom in to clearly see search results or scroll horizontally to see the rest of the Web page. The software is also optimized for multimedia, handling online video searches from such sources as YouTube. (AP) - Apple Inc. on Tuesday unveiled new models of its iPhone and iPod Touch gadgets that have twice as much memory as earlier ... models. The new iPhone model features 16 gigabytes of memory and retails for $499. The previously released 8 GB version of the hybrid cell phone, multimedia player and wireless Internet device costs $399. The new iPod Touch model comes with 32 GB of memory and retails for $499. The older 16 GB and 8 GB versions of the combination multimedia player wireless Internet gadget cost $399 and $299, respectively. The new devices are available through Apple's online store and its retail stores. The updated iPhone is also available through AT&T's (NYSE:SBT) (NYSE:T) online store and retail stores. No financial details were disclosed. Swisscom said it will clarify at a later date whether the contract will be exclusive and which iPhone generation will be available in Swisscom shops.   The new phone, which offers faster internet access, cannot be used until a contract has been signed and the SIM card has been activated. The registration process normally takes only a few hours but unprecedented ... demand for the device last Friday led to the computer system of O2, the exclusive network carrier in the UK, buckling under the pressure. Three days on and some customers are complaining that they are still waiting for their handsets to be activated. Apple declined to say how many people have been affected, but it is understood that the problem has hit at least 2,000 customers who bought their phones from Carphone Warehouse. Nicholas Savage is one of scores of disgruntled customers who posted a complaint on a website called Carphone Warehouse's iPhone Activation Cock-up.
