One of our clients organized a focus group of around 10 people to understand how people live their lives on a daily basis, their routine and habits. One lady, a 20-something Hangzhounese, was asked about her daily routine. Of course for her, cosmetics and beauty care played a big part. However this lady mentioned Avene, in particular as a product she uses regularly. Avene is also a client of ours and it was interesting to hear what made her use or believe in this product. She said she spends a lot of time on the Internet and found the Avene website with the beauty tips very relevant to her. The Avene blog with people talking about their problems and how they found Avene to be a good solution to them also convinced her. This was a perfect example for our Avene client to hear. I discuss how Friendster applies social theory, how users react to the site, and the tensions that emerge between creator and users when the latter fails to conform to the expectations of the former. By offering this ethnographic piece as an example, I suggest how the HCI community should consider the co-evolution of the social community and the underlying technology.   RESTON, Virginia There was bipartisan agreement on display Thursday about the impact of Web 2.0 technology on politics. Joe Trippi, senior advisor to the John Edwards presidential campaign, and Cyrus Krohn, ... the director of the eCampaign division of the Republican National Committee, both spoke of how social networking has changed the face of politics on a panel at ExecutiveBiz's The New New Internet conference here. "It's going to overthrow the current structure [of politics]," Trippi said of the impact of the Web, social networking, and social media. Krohn concurred, saying, "The floodgates have been opened it's going to change politics forever."
