  Study: Women Outnumber Men on Most Social Networks - ReadWriteWeb

  Online reputation company Rapleaf has released a new study of 49.3 million people, revealing gender and age data about social network users. On most of the main social networks - including MySpace, Facebook, ... Bebo, Hi5 - women outnumber men by a considerable amount. On Facebook, the 18-24 age group is largest, with 1,685,029 women in that age group compared to 977,753 men. In MySpace, the same age group dominates, with 7,091,214 women and 5,226,788 men. The only social networks studied that didn't have more women than men in the 18-24 year old group were venerable old LinkedIn (where incidentally the 25-34 age group was tops) and a site called Perfspot. Other highlights: Women ages 14-24 dominate activity on social networks and have more friends than men of the same ages. Men ages 35+ are more active and have more friends than women of the same ages. The average social network user has 2-25 friends.   The Social Enterprise - What Works, and What Doesn't

  Last week in Reston, Virginia, the New New Internet conference took place, and the spotlight was on the adoption of new social technologies in the enterprise. One morning panel was moderated by Ryan Carson ... and featured Brad Feld , the Managing Director at the Foundry Group, Hans Hwang, VP Advanced Services, Cisco, and myself. During the course of our discussion, Ryan brought up a set of interesting questions: Should enterprises embrace blogging? What is the impact of Google Docs on the enterprises? Do corporations need social networks? Can enterprises benefit from social bookmarking and wikis?   Should Social Networks Be Regulated? - ReadWriteWeb

  UK Says Yes, EU is Considering, is US Next? A recent study in the UK showed that most Britons have a strong desire for the regulation of social network sites like MySpace and Facebook. In fact, 9 out of ... 10 people said there should be tighter regulation and, according to today's The Guardian , 89% said there should be a set of widely accepted rules to help prevent personal information from being abused. The survey was performed by the Press Complaints Commission (PCC), a British regulatory body for printed newspapers and magazines that consists of representatives from all the major publishers. Since the PCC has been expanding their role, now monitoring internet and video content produced by newspapers, one wonders if they now want to dip their fingers into social network regulation as well.
