  There will be two 14-mile tunnels beneath Central London and spur lines to Heathrow Airport and South-East London. It will be Britain's biggest infrastructure project since the £9.5billion Channel Tunnel ... was completed in 1994. Announcing the go-ahead, Mr Brown said: "This is a great day for London, for Crossrail and the British economy." Analysts predict it will create 30,000 jobs and inject £20billion a year into the economy as well as easing traffic congestion and overcrowding on the Tube and trains. MPs from across the political divide and business and tourism leaders also welcomed the decision, declaring Crossrail was vital to maintain London's growth. However, Mr Brown was accused of exploiting the project by making an announcement ahead of calling a possible general election. The scheme could net Labour valuable votes in many marginal constituencies along the line.   BOEING wants to build a larger research and development presence in Australia to complement its $800 million investment in local defence and component manufacturing businesses. Australia is now the corporation's ... largest footprint outside the US with about 4000 employees scattered around 26 different sites and annual revenues climbing towards the billion-dollar mark. Boeing's military business in Australia is booming - the company now supplies a large part of the RAAF's new airborne capability, ranging from strategic airlift and airborne early-warning aircraft to combat fighters and helicopters. "We are studying having a large R&D presence in the country. There are a lot of unique capabilities in Australia for the Boeing company," Craig Saddler, president of Boeing Australia, told The Australian yesterday.
