  Robots need to interact with their surroundings. We make them see with cameras and measure their environments with other sensors. Based on these measurements, robots control themselves with algorithms ... also developed by research/ students/ enthusiasts. Monitoring the capture control and sensor processing software in unifying frameworks, will enable re-use, fine tuning and better performance of the robot. It has been said that the HAL 9000 computer is the most empathetic character in 2001: A Space Odyssey. Even though his "nervous breakdown" turns him into a murderer, his eventual "death" by disconnection is sadder than any other death in the movie. But almost everyone who has seen the movie has wondered: what exactly caused HAL's breakdown? Robots will become more sophisticated. With increased logic comes responsibility.
