Winds of change blowing through Australian energy policy 

AUSTRALIA is in the middle of a revolution in energy policy driven by the threat of dangerous climate change. Whatever the outcome of the looming federal election, Australia will have a national emissions ... trading scheme operating from around 2011, based on economic analysis to be completed next year. But it is generally agreed that trading alone will not be enough to deliver the deep cuts in greenhouse gases required both here and overseas. Along with the debate over privatisation of government-owned energy generation and retail assets, the next big climate change policy debate confronting Australia will be about shaping a comprehensive industry strategy for energy. The stakes are high. Energy users have already forecast that up to $75 billion of new-generation infrastructure will be needed by 2030 to achieve emissions cuts and increase supply to sustain economic growth. Aussie helps find 14 new galaxies 

AN Australian scientist is part of an international team of astronomers which has found 14 new galaxies. The discovery, outlined in Astrophysical Journal, represents a major breakthrough in the field of ... distant galaxy hunting and is like finding 14 needles in a haystack. The team was led by Nicolas Bouche from the Max Planck Institute for Extraterrestrial Physics in Germany and included astronomer Dr Michael Murphy, from Melbourne's Swinburne University of Technology. Using the European Southern Observatory's Very Large Telescope (VLT) in northern Chile, the astronomers relied on quasars, which are like cosmic beacons, to find the galaxies. “We infer the galaxies' existence from the specific pattern of shadows they imprint onto the quasars' spectrum,” said Dr Murphy. The team searched the patches of sky around the quasars for the foreground galaxies whose light comes from the time the universe was only about six billion years old, less than half its current age. A critical shortage of engineers could further delay Australia's move toward environmentally-friendly energy generation, a conference has heard. A meeting of 1,400 energy industry leaders from around the ... world gathered in Sydney for the Energy 21C conference, heard Australia will face a shortfall of skilled engineering personnel within five years. "We will need up to 2,000 engineering graduates from universities before 2012," Australian Power Institute chief executive officer Mike Griffin said. "The problem is that the perceived benefits of science and engineering study is low compared to other high profile areas such as law and medicine. "This means we simply don't have the pool of emerging engineers to meet our requirements into the future." Does anyone know how to make a SPA-400 disconnect a call when the remote party hangs up on it? For example. I have a SPA-400 which forwards calls to the auto attendant. If the caller hangs up whilst in ... the auto attendant menu it doesn't connect them EVER! Any help would be great. BOEING wants to build a larger research and development presence in Australia to complement its $800 million investment in local defence and component manufacturing businesses. Australia is now the corporation's ... largest footprint outside the US with about 4000 employees scattered around 26 different sites and annual revenues climbing towards the billion-dollar mark. Boeing's military business in Australia is booming - the company now supplies a large part of the RAAF's new airborne capability, ranging from strategic airlift and airborne early-warning aircraft to combat fighters and helicopters.
