This comprehensive document contains information on energy saving technologies and practices in the iron and steel industry in different parts of the world. Canada Joins Partnership at 2nd Ministerial Meeting The founding Partners of the Asia-Pacific Partnership on Clean Development and Climate warmly welcomed Canada as an official Partner on 15 October, 2007, during the 2nd Ministerial meeting in New Delhi, India. Their active participation in contributing to the complementary goals of energy security, air pollution reduction, and sustainable growth is eagerly anticipated by all Partners. Second Ministerial Meeting of the Asia-Pacific Partnership on Clean Development and Climate On 15 October, 2007, Ministers and high level representatives from Australia, Canada, China, India, Japan, Republic of Korea and the United States met to

Reports. By doing this, he put climate change on the political agenda. This in turn prompted the Parties to the UNFCCC to launch negotiations in 1995, which then led to the adoption of the Kyoto Protocol in 1997. When serving as the first chairman of the UN's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change from 1988 to 1998, Professor Bolin played a key role in communicating the dangers of climate change. As an eminent organizer and leader, he was instrumental in establishing crucial links between scientists and decision-makers. The IPCC's Fourth Assessment Report and its well-documented findings published last year lead to unprecedented momentum for action on climate change, a fact recognised by the Nobel Peace Prize committee. Without Professor Bolin’s contribution to the process we would perhaps not have seen the launch of post-2012 clim

the LCCA is to deliver projects that reduce greenhouse gas – mainly carbon dioxide - emissions from London in the sectors of energy, waste, water and transport. The LCCA plays a key role in delivering the Mayor's Climate Change Action Plan and the Mayor's Energy Strategy. The London Climate Change Agency has been established with the support of the following founders: BP, Lafarge, Legal & General, Sir Robert McAlpine, Johnson Matthey, and the City of London Corporation. The Agency is also being supported by the Rockefeller Brothers' Trust, KPMG, Greenpeace, The Climate Group, the Carbon Trust and the Energy Saving Trust. WRI's goal is to protect the global climate system from further harm due to emissions of greenhouse gases and help humanity and the natural world adapt

to unavoidable climate change. Hundreds of companies around the world are using GHG Protocol standards and tools to manage their GHG footprint and make a difference for the climate by developing new products, improving energy efficiency, and participating in GHG programs and markets. Background: Climate Change and Greenhouse Gas Accounting The current climate situation has evolved around a scientific consensus that the concentration of carbon molecules in the atmosphere has drastically increased since the epoch of the industrial revolution beginning in 1750. Due to this increase of greenhouse gases (GHG) or large molecule gases that trap heat in Earth’s atmosphere, the average temperature of the globe has begun to rise. To prevent a continuation of this warming trend, the international community is working to build a cooperative effort

RESEARCH PAPER 08/08
24 JANUARY 2008
Aviation and Climate
Change
Aviation is a growing industry. Government and the
aviation industry
...
recognise a link between aviation
emissions and climate change, although there is
uncertainty about the measurement of the exact
effects. Given the predicted growth in the aviation
sector, it seems likely that unless emissions are
curbed, they will cancel out efforts made to reduce
emissions in other sectors. This paper sets out to
explain: the effects of emissions from aviation; the
difficulties in making accurate calculations about how
these emissions effect climate change; and what
proposals and actions are being taken at various levels
to reduce these emissions.

Something over a week ago I had the pleasure of making my way up to the little ski resort of La Thuile in the Val D'Aosta to learn about the latest results

from the Venus Express mission. (You can imagine it was a tough decision to go to La Thuile and hear real scientists talking about Venus when I could have instead been listening to luminaries such as Mark Morano drone on at the . ) My own connection with the Venus Express meeting came about through some work I've been doing on habitability of the newly discovered "Super Earth" extrasolar planets like Gliese 581c. Many of us think these may be "super-Venuses" rather than "Super-Earths," so it seemed like time to touch base with the people working on our own Venus. The fact that we can put together the same bits of physics we use to understand global warming on Earth in order to understand the interplay of the carbon dioxide greenhouse with sulfuric acid clouds on Venus is a testament to the fundamental power of climate science, and g
