Receiving a couple of irrelevant emails a day is okay, but when faced with over 200, people start feeling somewhat strangled. Recent research from Glasgow University found that a third of workers polled felt stressed by the volume of emails received – plus the obligation to respond quickly. Spam pushed its record-breaking levels even further during November when email security company SoftScan classified 96.3 per cent of all emails scanned as junk mail. SoftScan also notes that more spam ... is appearing in languages other than English and that the grammar and spelling is more convincing to native speakers than before. Until recently, local-language spam has normally been easy for users to spot, as it had obviously been translated electronically, said SoftScan CTO Diego d'Ambra. "Fed-up with getting lost in translation, it appears that spammers are starting to wake-up to the fact that, if they want people to respond in some way, localisation is required," he added. This is now the sixth consecutive month that spam has gone over the 90 per cent mark. Since June 2007, junk mail has grown considerably from 90.06 per cent, with two large increases in September (93.51 per cent) and October (96.10 per cent) to November's high of 96.3 per cent. January 14, 2008 British and US military agree secure email protocol Major defence manufacturers also back new PKI standard By Ellen Messmer The Ministry of Defence and US defence agencies have agreed ... specifications for secure e-mail and other electronic collaboration. The specifications were agreed through the Transglobal Secure Collaboration Programme, a shared effort between British and American defence agencies and aerospace partners. The TSCP secure e-mail specification is a public-key infrastructure-based technology that assures the identities of authorised users by means of digital certificates that can encrypt and verify e-mail content. TCSP participants include the US Department of Defence, the UK’s Ministry of Defence (MoD), Boeing, EADS, Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, Raytheon and Rolls-Royce.
