Energy industry set for climate change, says report - The IET 

According to a new study, the UK energy industry is now much more prepared for the impacts of climate change. Results from the project between UK energy ... companies and the Met Office have highlighted that the majority of energy infrastructure is already fit to meet the challenges of a changing climate. However, the study has also shown that more needs to be done by the industry to help it prepare for predicted rises in temperature in the future. A clear indicator from the project was that historical climatology is no longer relevant because of global warming. These long-term changes mean that it is likely that energy demands will be affected through the seasons. Change in demand was one of two broad areas the project highlighted, with developing and adapting technology to future climate being another major factor. Over-60s rate energy most important bill - The IET 

Pollsters YouGov found that 29 per cent of respondents prized gas and electricity more highly than food, clothes, their mortgage and other utilities. But ... the research, conducted on behalf of EDF Energy, also found that more than a third of over-60s were paying more than they needed to for their energy. Of those interviewed, 37 per cent were unaware of how to apply for the benefits and entitlements available to help cut their bills. Almost half of respondents (47 per cent) thought they might be eligible for certain benefits but said they found available information too confusing. EDF said it was creating a new post of energy advice manager to increase the uptake among the elderly of the benefits to which they are entitled. Help the Aged said £5bn worth of benefits were going unclaimed each year.
