The first device to run the search giant's operating system will feature a touch screen as well as a Qwerty keyboard. It will be available for free on T-Mobile tariffs of over £40 a month and includes unlimited net browsing. Other features include a three megapixel camera, a 'one click' contextual search and a browser that users can zoom in on by tapping the screen. The handset will be wi-fi and 3G enabled and has built-in support for YouTube. Users will also have access the so-called Android Market, where they will be able to download a variety of applications. Prototypes Google announced its plans for the Android phone software in November 2007 with a declared aim of making it easier to get at the web while on the move. To help develop Android, Google also unveiled the Open Handset Alliance - a partnership of more than 30 firms that

percent of 500 Brits surveyed - in Universal McCann’s survey of 10,000 in 21 countries ( via Guardian ) - said they’d like to own a converged handset. The problem? Device fatigue - 82 percent of us already has a mobile, 48 percent a mobile music player so the new wave needs to work hard to ween us off our existing purchases. Still, only 43 percent of respondents wanted wireless internet and, though 48 percent quite fancy having video on their mobile, a full 28 percent wants music features but none of the moving pictures. Curiously, even in the normally hyper mobile-savvy Japan and Taiwain, interest in owning a converged device only bobbled around 27 percent. Most excited of all were Mexicans (79 percent), Brazil and Malaysia (72 percent) and India (70 percent), suggesting those markets where penetration of rudimentary phones is still lo

the Berlin-based Federal Office for Radiation Protection (BfS). German Environment Minister Sigmar Gabriel said more than 50 studies in the German Mobile Telecommunications Research Programme (DMF), conducted from 2002 to 2008, had found no evidence that mobile phones and transmission towers posed a health risk within the required limits for electromagnetic radiation. The programme was funded with 17 million euros ($26 million), a small sum compared with the billions of euros that the German government collected when it auctioned licenses for slices of Germany's UMTS airwave spectrum in 2000. Though the country's four mobile network operators provided half of the research funds, the BfS told critics that DMF procedures had ensured the objectivity of the studies. Research focused on the functioning mechanisms of high frequency electroma

college. If you've got an iPhone, there are a few ways to save voicemail audio files to your computer. If you've jailbroken your iPhone , you can SFTP into it and transfer the files to your local hard drive. If not, you can use your computer's line in and free recording software to manually record the message. Here's how. File Transfer First, if you haven't already, jailbreak your iPhone 2.0 (here's the Windows method ). This will install an OpenSSH server on your device that lets you transfer files from it to your computer. On the iPhone, under Settings->Wi-Fi, select the network you have joined to view connection details. Write down the phone's IP address. Fire up your favorite FTP client. (I like the not-free but great Transmit , but the free FileZilla works, too .) Using your FTP program, connect to the device's IP address with usern

knowledge of the health risks over the long term. (Frank Polich/Bloomberg) PARIS : While major cities around the world rush to blanket neighborhoods with free wireless Internet access, critics are questioning the health risks that might be created by a wired London or a Paris transformed from the City of Light to City of Hot Spots.
The nagging fear is that electromagnetic waves emitted by wireless technology could become the tobacco smoke of the 21st century. Some environmentalists are already demanding restrictions, and government officials in some countries are issuing warnings to limit use and seeking reviews of the long-term health impact of exposure to wireless networks and mobile telephones.
"The exposure to electromagnetic fields is rising, and it's widespread," said Jacqueline McGlade, executive director of the European
