Nissan Motor Co. Ltd. has announced the completion of construction of its "Engineering Center," which was began within the Nissan Technical Center in October 2004. Nissan will develop technologies based ... on its "Nissan Green Program 2010" medium-term environmental action plan aimed at reducing CO 2 emission. Positioning the Engineering Center as one of its investments for future that Nissan addresses in line with its long-term prospects, roughly 90 billion yen will be invested for the enhancement of power train development at the Nissan Technical Center and the Nissan Advanced Technology Center completed in May 2007, the reform of Nissan Design Center and other R&D centers. Summary: The Bush Administration has requested $142.7 billion in federal research and development (R&D) funding for FY2008.As in the recent past, the FY2008 proposed increase over the FY2007 funding level ... is due to significant funding increases in the Department of Defense (DOD); the National Aeronautics and Space Administration's (NASA's) space vehicles development program; and the continuation of the American Competitiveness Initiative (ACI). The President initiated the ACI in FY2007 and continues to promote it in his FY2008 R&D budget. While the ACI is likely to be well received by lawmakers, other administration proposals for agency R&D funding are likely to encounter strong opposition in Congress. For example, the administration's proposed budget for the National Institutes of Health (NIH) is $28.5 billion, a decrease of $529 million (1.8%) below the estimated 2007 funding level. Boeing thinks big on R&D 

BOEING wants to build a larger research and development presence in Australia to complement its $800 million investment in local defence and component manufacturing businesses. Australia is now the corporation's ... largest footprint outside the US with about 4000 employees scattered around 26 different sites and annual revenues climbing towards the billion-dollar mark. Boeing's military business in Australia is booming - the company now supplies a large part of the RAAF's new airborne capability, ranging from strategic airlift and airborne early-warning aircraft to combat fighters and helicopters. "We are studying having a large R&D presence in the country. There are a lot of unique capabilities in Australia for the Boeing company," Craig Saddler, president of Boeing Australia, told The Australian yesterday.
