Under the Hood: Full-featured phones are ultrathin 

Thick and thinner When the one-year-old Sony Ericsson K800i, also analyzed by Portelligent, is compared with the recently launched W880i, many similarities are found to exist between the phones, including ... the candy-bar form factor, QVGA display, dual cameras and W-CDMA connectivity. However, the thickness of the devices and their respective display modules couldn't be more different. At only 10 mm, the Sony Ericsson W880i is more than 40 percent thinner than the K800i, even after excluding the additional 5-mm camera protrusion found on the K800i. A significant contributor to this reduction in thickness is the svelte QVGA (320 x 240-pixel) display module contained in the W880i. Examining the two display modules side by side quickly reveals that the LCD module in the W880i contributes at least 1 mm of the 7.6-mm profile difference between the phones. Where is the glass? As reserves of (low extraction cost) fossil fuels dwindle in the future and costs rise the economic viability of all renewable sources will increase. The paper provides an overview of the resource capacity of renewable wind and tidal power generation in the UK, comparing it to the demand and considering the problem of integration. The options for matching the intermittence of these power sources using energy storage are considered, including using the energy to power the hydrogen economy. Big WebOS roundup - 10 online operating systems reviewed at franticindustries - web 2.0, social networking, IT technology trends. 

While we’re waiting for Google to launch its own Google OS (if the rumours are true, of course), I’ve checked out 10 web operating systems and what they can do. Not many of them feel like finished and ... fully usable products, but there are some true gems among them. Admit it: you didn’t think there were that many WebOSes around, did you? Neither did I. You can find month or two old articles on the web which talk about a WebOS as a recently forged concept, yet to be realized. YouOS was practically the only one that had media coverage, so when I began the research for this article, I hoped to find five usable WebOS applications at best. I was wrong. There are over 10 fully functional WebOS applications out there, and a couple more that are announced or in closed betas. But what is a WebOS (not to be confused with another definition of the term, see here ), or a Webtop , anyway ?
